Basic Kumitais:
    1. Step back into a horse stance. Right hand up, forearm block (blocking punch). Use a knife hand to strike to the side of the opponents neck. Step over into a right leaning stance, and deliver a palm heel strike, then a lunge punch.
    2. Step back into a horse stance and block with a forearm block. Bring both hands back into knife hands. Step over into a right leaning stance and deliver two chop shotos to the side of the neck.
    3. Step back into a horse stance and block with a forearm block to the left. Move your hand to the right so that you block there also. Do a straight-in shoto to the left collar bone. Step into a right leaning stance and deliver a right lunge punch.
    4. Step back into a horse stance. Block an upper cut with a downward forearm block. Bring your hands up and deliver an elbow strike to the face.
    5. Step forward into a horse stance at a 45 degree angle to the right. Bring your left hand (opened) by your face to block the straight-in punch and bring the right hand near the retracted position. Both hand move together and appear to be in palm heel strikes. Bring the hands back in palm heel strikes and then forward, striking to the face and groin simultaneously.

Basic Kumitais with the Short Staff:
      1. Step back into a horse stance. Right hand up, block with short staff. Use the staff to strike to the side of the opponent's neck. Step over into a right leaning stance and deliver a palm heel strike. Then stick the attacker with the end of the staff.
      2. Step back into a horse stance and block with the staff. Bring both hands back, ( the hand without the staff is in a knife hand). Step over into a right leaning stance, and deliver a strike to the neck with the staff and then a chop shoto strike to the neck.
      3. Step back into a horse stance and block with the staff. Use the staff to block another punch on the other side. Strike to the collar bone with the staff. Step into a right leaning stance, and deliver a left lung punch.
      4. Step back into a horse stance. Block an upper cut with a downward strike with the staff. Bring your hands up and slide the staff down in your hand. Deliver strike to the face with the bottom end of the staff.
      5. Step back into a horse stance at a 45 degree angle to the right. Bring your left hand (opened) by your face to block the straight-in punch and bring the right hand near the retracted position. Both hands move together. Bring the hands back, the left hand delivers a palm heel strike to the face, and the right hand with the staff delivers a strike to the groin.
