Kanku / Kwanku (Viewing The Sky)
Bow. Open both hands with the thumb pointing away from thepointer at 45 degrees. Bring the tips of the thumbs together, and the tips of the pointer fingers together. This should form a quadrilateral triangle. Keep your neck straight and look through the triangle as you raise it until it is just in front of you above your head. This is all done slowly. Next bring your arms down, so that your upper arms are level with the ground, and your lower arms, which are pointing up, are perpendicular to the ground. This is a block. Immediately after blocking, swing your arms around and down. The chopping edge of your right hand will strike the inside of your left. Both hands are opened, and your arms are straight. Step to the left, into a back stance, and block with the back of your open left hand. Your upper arm is level with the ground, and forearm is perpendicular to the ground. Your right hand is against your stomach, opened, and palm facing up. This move is not held at all, after the block is executed immediately pivot so that you are facing the other direction, and deliver the same type of block with the other hand. Look forward, and slowly come up to your right leg, as you slowly block with the left hand. Now, your feet are together, your right arm is retracted, and your left hand is open and tucked up next to your left side at about stomach level. Step out to the left, with the left foot, into a horse stance, and deliver a right lunge punch. Pivot to the left, into a left leaning stance, and deliver a right inside forearm block. Pivot back to a horse stance as you drive a left lunge punch in. Pivot to the right, into a right leaning stance, and deliver a left inside forearm block. Turn your head and look 90 degrees to the right. Extend both hands forward, open and palms facing each other. Come up half way with the back leg, and bring the hands in half way. Come the rest of the way up, by stepping back with the front leg. At the same time, bring the hands the rest of the way back, clench your fists, retract the left hand, and bring the right in just above the left. Look to the right. Deliver a right side thrust, and a right back hand in the same direction. When retracting the leg, pivot on the left leg so that you are facing the same direction you were when you started. Extend the right arm out in this direction, and retract the left hand up by the right ear. Step back into a back stance with the right leg (witch should still be raised) and deliver a left shoto block. Step forward to a right back stance, and deliver a right shoto block. Step forward again to left leaning stance, and deliver a left shoto. Block downward with an open hand, and step forward to a right leaning stance, while delivering a right straight in shoto straight over the blocking hand. Step over with the left leg two shoulder widths as you block a straight in kick with a left open hand and raise your right hand up by your right ear. Pivot so that you are facing the opposite direction, and raise the left hand to block a straight in punch while delivering a right straight in shoto to the neck. Deliver a high front snap kick, and before touching the foot back down to the ground pivot left half way around, thrust your right hand down to the attackers groin, while blocking your right shoulder with a left open hand. Grab the groin with your right hand, and as you pull the right arm back until it is bent at the elbow, and raised behind your head, strike downward with your left hand in a fist. Just as your left hand stops over your left knee (where it is blocking a kick), and your right arm stops behind your head, your right foot should land, leaving you in a left back stance. Pivot into a left leaning stance, drive your right shoto hand into the attackers groin, and block your right shoulder with your left open hand all at the same time. Slowly drag your left foot back to your right foot, retracting your right hand, and bring your left hand down by your side. Step forward to a left leaning stance, block a straight in kick with a left open hand. Raise your right hand up by your right ear, and bring the left hand up to block a punch, as you deliver a right straight in shoto to the attackers neck. Deliver a high front snap kick, and before touching the foot back down to the ground pivot left half way around, thrust your right hand down to the attackers groin, while blocking your right shoulder with a left open hand. Grab the groin with your right hand, and as you pull the right arm back until it is bent at the elbow, and raised behind your head, strike downward with your left hand in a fist. Just as your left hand stops over your left knee (where it is blocking a kick), and your right arm stops behind your head (where it is blocking a punch), your right foot should land, leaving you in a left back stance. Pivot into a left leaning stance, drive your right shoto hand into the attackers groin, and block your right shoulder with your left open hand all at the same time. Slowly drag your left foot back to your right foot, retracting your right hand, and bring your left hand down by your side. Extend both hands out, open and palms facing each other, to your left. Grab, retract the right hand and bring the left in just above the right, while pivoting 90 degrees to the left. Deliver a left side thrust kick, and left back hand in the same direction. Land in a left leaning stance. With the left arm reach around the attackers body, pull him in while driving a right elbow into his stomach. Come up to your left foot, while pivoting to the right 90 degrees and retracting the left hand placing the right just above it. Deliver a right side thrust kick, and right back hand in the same direction. Land in a right leaning stance. With the right arm reach around the attackers body, and pull him in while driving a left elbow into his stomach. Come up to your right foot with the left as you turn 180 degrees left, extend your right arm out in that direction (hand open), and bring the left hand to the right ear. Step out with your left leg into a back stance, and deliver a left shoto block. Raise both hand over head in a cross block (hands open). Turn 45 degrees right, step out into a right back stance and deliver a chop shoto to the attacker collar bone. Turn 135 degrees right as you extend your left arm out in that direction (hand open), and bring the right hand to the left ear. Step out with your right leg into a back stance, and deliver a right shoto block. Raise both hand over head in a cross block (hands open). Turn 45 degrees left, step out into a left back stance and deliver a chop shoto to the attacker collar bone. Come back to your right foot with the left, turn 45 degrees right and throw the attacker with both hands, forming a triangle with your hands. Turn 90 degrees left. Step out into a left leaning stance as you block a punch with a left open hand and strike an attackers throat with a right straight in shoto. Deliver a right front snap kick and land the right foot so you are in a right leaning stance. As you step around the back of your right leg block four consecutive punches with open hands in a circular motion. When you touch your left foot down behind the right foot deliver a hart punch with the right hand. Step back with the left foot into a right leaning stance as you execute a right inside forearm block. Deliver a double punch. Bring your right knee up as you come back and pivot 180 degrees left on your left foot. When you have completely turned around your knee should come all the way up, striking someone's stomach. At the same time you knee to the stomach grab the top of the attackers head, and thrust it down as you deliver a right upward punch to the face. Push the attacker to the ground. Turn 180 degrees right as you extend your right arm out and retract your left hand to your right ear. Step with the left leg to a back stance and deliver a low shoto block, blocking a kick. Step forward to a right back stance and deliver a shoto block. Clench your fists. Bring your right hand under your left arm, and your left hand to your right ear. Come up to your right foot and turn 270 degrees left. Step out into a wide left back stance (wide=feet shoulder width apart), and deliver a left inside forearm block. Then deliver a right lunge punch as you straighten your right leg so you are in a leaning stance. Bring your right hand to your left ear and your left hand under your right arm as you come back. To 180 degrees right. Step out into a wide right back stance and execute a right inside forearm block. Straighten your left leg so that you are in a right leaning stance and deliver a double punch, left hand first. Extend both hands (open) out in the direction you just punched. Bring your left foot half way to your right foot, and then bring your right foot back to your left as you retract both hands to the left side. Look 90 degrees to your right. Deliver a side thrust kick in this direction and a back fist at the same time. When you bring the knee back up pivot 90 degrees left, extend your right hand out in this direction, and retract your left hand to your right ear. Put the raised right foot down behind you so you are in a left leaning stance. At the same time deliver a left shoto block. Block a straight in punch with an open hand. Step forward with your right foot into a leaning stance while delivering a high straight in shoto. As you come forward and start to turn block and grab a punch with the right hand. Turn 360 degrees while still holding the attackers wrist. Step in the direction of the attacker with the left leg into a horse stance as you strike to the top of his head with the bottom of your hand, and then to his face with the bottom of your hand. Bend your left arm around the back of the attackers neck and then immediately pull his head into your right elbow strike. Throw the attacker to the ground. Both hands are retracted to the left side. Bring the right hand out and around in a circular path, coming from the left side and ending about one shoulder width to the right of your waist. Pivot on your right foot 180 degrees. Deliver a knee, a high left punch, and a low right punch. Step out to the left with the raised left knee into a horse stance. Upon touching down deliver a high left punch and a low right. Next execute a downward cross block, blocking a kick (hands are closed). Slowly come up to your left foot as you raise your cross block above your head, and open your hands. You are now blocking a knife over your head. Turn 180 degrees right as you twist the arm. Break the arm over your shoulder. Turn 90 more degrees right. Clench your fists and lower the cross block to your chest as you step back with the left leg into a right leaning stance. Take one step and then deliver a jumping front kick. Land in a right leaning stance, and put your right forearm out level with the ground. Turn 180 degrees right as you come forward to your right foot. Swing your arms out, bring them up over your head, and cross them. Continue to swing downward and bend your knees. Block a kick on both sides (in application only on attacker or your right side kicks). Come up as your arms swing up. Stop when your arms cross. Turn your wrists inward as you lower your arms. Bow.
